How to Make Russian Food at Home?

The reason for its popularity is that it combines the tastes of different cuisines into one delicious meal. Russian cuisine has many different ingredients, which can be combined in different ways to create food that not only tastes good but also looks good as well. To make this possible, Russian chefs use a wide variety of spices and herbs, which are used to give their dishes a unique taste and aroma. One of these spices is called ‘Russian bay leaf’. This spice was originally used by Russians to add flavor to dishes like caviar and sturgeon roe. However, it was later discovered that it could also be used as a substitute for pine needles because of its bitter taste when mixed with water. In the modern age, it is still used in many dishes.Ingredients:1 cup of flour (For gluten-free)2 tablespoons of olive oil (For salad and soup preparation)1 teaspoon of salt3/4 cup of water (For dessert or sauce preparation)Russian bay leaf or pine needles (optional). How to Prepare:
1 . If you are making a salad, place the flour, water and bay leaf in a bowl. Stir until all the ingredients are combined.
- Heat olive oil in a small skillet and when hot, add the salt and stir until it becomes golden brown.
- Wash all vegetables that you plan on using for your salad (or soup or sauce) with cold water to remove any dirt and prepare them for cooking. Make sure that none of the vegetables is too small or too big, as they will be scarce when it comes to their amount of water.
- Put a little bit of oil in your skillet and sauté onions until they become translucent. Add garlic and fry this for a few seconds until it becomes golden brown; add the thyme and leave it to cook until the garlic becomes golden.
- Once everything is cooked, add your tomatoes, carrots and celery; mix together with a fork and stir fry for 1-2 minutes until everything is well coated in the oil.
- Heat up some olive oil in your skillet one more time, then add my homemade dill relish (canned is fine) and allow to boil for 2-3 minutes over high heat.
- Mix everything in a bowl and serve with your pan-fried vegetables and hot, spicy dressing (optional).

Slow Cooker BorschtIngredients: 1 cup of water 2-3 medium-sized onions (sliced finely) 4 cloves garlic, peeled 3 celery stalks, chopped into chunks 1 C. cabbage strips (cut into pieces) 2 green peppers (chopped), 1 yellow pepper and the other one cut into small pieces 2 carrots (cut into pieces) 1 tbsp oil, for the pan and the slow cooker 1 tsp sugar 2 C. diced tomatoes (chopped)1 tsp salt and pepper to season it1. Heat a skillet on medium heat. Add oil, onion, garlic and celery to it. Sautee until onion is soft (about 10mins).2. While they are cooking, combine the rest of the ingredients in a slow cooker (including tomatoes).3. Add liquid and bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat to low and cover the slow cooker until ready to serve. This will take around two hours depending on how much liquid you have left in your slow cooker, but this is something that can be prepared ahead of time so it can be picked up just before it’s needed.4. If you want to require some flavour, if you are going to be serving this dish on its own, add a little garlicky oil and a dash of salt, pepper or herbs such as basil, rosemary or thyme.5. To serve the cooked chicken stew: Place in a large platter and serve.
